I wanted to share the ornament craft that Kitty from MA, did with her child care. Kitty used cut up bow pieces and laminated the ornaments. They turned out beautiful. Thank you Kitty for sharing this picture with us. Jean 1 - 2 - 3 Learn Curriculum
I don't know how she did this, but I do a similiar craft with my kids. (and did it with a daycare class too). I take a square of contact paper and put it on the table sticky side up. I let the kids rip tissue paper and put it on the contact paper. When they are finished put another piece of contact paper on top to seal it. Then cut into any shape you want. (We usually do this in fall and make leaf or pumpkin shapes. I have also cut it into the letter of their name.) But will definetly do the Christmas ornament this year!!
This is a great idea and I can see some small stained glass windows made with this to hang in your window where you work or in the kitchen... makes a lovely jewel effect. I wish that I had thought of this earier!
I did a google image search and there were lots of options for the ornament outline. This was a good one: http://www.activityvillage.co.uk/sites/default/files/downloads/christmas_ornament_frame_blank.pdf
Thank you for this template Granola! I can't wait to make these with my Pre-K class this year! I'm going to use tissue paper glued onto wax paper, then put it in the ornament frame. I may laminate them, too. Thanks for the idea 1-2-3 Curriculum!
you may have 2 options. Either to use contact paper and stick the tissue paper to the sticky end or just like Sheila's suggestion, tick the template to wax paper, spread crayon shaving then put another piece of wax paper and run a warm iron. I sometimes put a cloth on top of the wax paper.
They also sell laminate in rolls that is really easy to use. One side is sticky. have the child put the pieces on the sticky side Lay another piece of laminate on top sticky side down. Press it together and trim the sides. Really easy stuff to use.
love these. were they made with wax paper?
ReplyDeletehow do the pieces stay if you are laminating? how did you do this as a group? It's adorable, I want to do this with my class

DeleteMy daughter made ones like that in preschool. Used wax paper and shaved crayons, and ran a warn iron over them.
